ISAs Explained

An Individual Savings Account (ISA) allows you to earn tax-free interest on your savings – a highly efficient way to make your money work harder. At The Stafford Building Society, we provide Cash ISA options designed specifically with our local savers in mind, offering simple, clear choices to suit different savings styles.

Our Cash ISA offers quick access to your money, giving you flexibility without losing the tax-free benefit. For savers who can plan ahead and want a more rewarding return, our Notice Cash ISAs offer a higher interest rate in exchange for a 45-day or a 60-day notice period before you withdraw. It’s a great option for those seeking better rates while still maintaining some access to their funds.

If you’re saving for a child, our Junior Cash ISA allows you to build a tax-free savings pot of up to £9,000 per year – a strong foundation for their financial future. Meanwhile, adults can contribute up to £20,000 across their ISA accounts in the 2025/26 tax year, helping to grow long-term savings efficiently.

Every Cash ISA we offer is underpinned by clarity, accessibility, and our deep commitment to the Staffordshire community. Whether you’re new to saving or looking to maximise your tax-free allowance, we offer practical options and straightforward support.

ISA FAQs

    What is a Cash ISA?

A Cash ISA is a savings account that lets you earn interest without paying tax on that interest. It is designed to help you save securely within your annual ISA allowance.

How much can I pay into a Cash ISA each tax year?

You can currently pay up to £20,000 into ISAs each tax year, across all adult ISA accounts you hold. From 6 April 2027, the Cash ISA limit will be £12,000 for savers under 65, while the overall ISA allowance will remain £20,000.

Can I withdraw money from a Cash ISA at any time?

It depends on the account. The Stafford’s standard Cash ISA has no withdrawal notice period, but Notice Cash ISAs require notice before you can take money out.

On The Stafford’s standard Cash ISA, withdrawals do not make the account flexible, so taking money out does not increase how much you can pay back in during the same tax year.

Yes. Eligible deposits held with The Stafford are protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) up to £120,000 per eligible person.

Yes. You can open a Cash ISA with The Stafford online. You can apply online, in our Stafford branch or by post, whichever suits you best. Our team will be happy to help.

How does a Cash ISA work?

A Cash ISA works like a savings account, but the interest you earn is tax-free. Yu can pay in up to your annual ISA allowance, and the acess rules depend on the type of Cash ISA you choose, such as instant access or notice period.
