At The Stafford Building Society, being a mutual is about more than mortgages and savings. It means being part of our community and helping to protect the things that bring us together. That is why we have donated to the Staffordshire Yeomanry Museum at Stafford’s Ancient High House, so that local stories can be shared for generations to come.
Stories of Local Life
The Staffordshire Yeomanry began in 1794, meeting first at The Swan Hotel in Stafford. Over time, many local families became part of its history. Today, the Yeomanry Museum explores the lives and contributions of Staffordshire people across the years.
Through uniforms, letters, photos and personal objects, the museum shows stories of service, resilience and belonging. These collections connect us with the daily lives of those before us and remind us of our shared roots. For many visitors, the museum is a celebration of Staffordshire’s people and their spirit.
A Landmark Setting
The museum is housed in the Ancient High House, one of the finest Tudor buildings in Staffordshire. This makes it a special place to learn and connect. The building is itself a landmark of Stafford’s history, and the museum adds to its appeal for families, schools and visitors of all ages.
By keeping these stories open and engaging, the museum strengthens our sense of place and identity. It also gives people of different generations a chance to reflect and share.
Why This Matters to Us?
As a building society owned by members, The Stafford is about more than financial services. Our role is to create value and strengthen our community. Supporting the Staffordshire Yeomanry Museum is one way we do this.
Just as we safeguard our members’ savings, we also want to safeguard the history that makes Staffordshire unique. As a mutual, we believe in the power of people working together. Supporting the museum is another way we put that belief into practice.
Sustaining Staffordshire’s Stories
Our donation will help the Yeomanry Museum continue its work in keeping Staffordshire’s history alive. By supporting the museum, we want to make sure these stories remain part of our shared identity into the future.
This is not about looking back with nostalgia. It is about making history meaningful today and inspiring tomorrow. That sense of connection is at the heart of The Stafford.
